Cleft chestnut offers both a very attractive rustic appearance, and ease of installation thanks to the simple mortice and tenon joints. Our English coppiced chestnut is responsibly sourced from woodlands in Southern England and is our most popular local hardwood. Our chestnut posts and rails are cleft in the traditional way that has been passed down through many generations. Cleaving the chestnut down its grain helps to retain the natural strength of the timber.
